There are days to be serious, but today is simply not one of those days. Spoiler alert! Today is April Fools Day, and what a glorious day it is for the Internet. Here are of my favorites in no particular order.
1. Google Nose
It’s become a bit of a tradition for Google to introduce some sort of pseudo-app every April Fools and this year’s edition comes in the form of Google Nose with the slogan “Smelling is believing.”
Had she not smelled her phone, I might have believed them.
2. Netflix Suggestions
Upon perusing the web for some other April Fools fun, it seemed that Netflix had performed the prank of all pranks. Netflix typically gives me ultra-specific categories, but today seems to be extra special on that front. Here is the suggestion from my own personal account:
Sadly I did not get anything about Nicolas Cage freak-outs as seen here.
3. Star Wars
Late last night, George Takei made an unprecedented announcement via Facebook that he would be joining the cast of the JJ Abrams re-boot of Star Wars. Some of my own personal Facebook pals fell for this one.
This one gets a bit more elaborate. Video sharing site Vimeo, known for higher quality films, has changed its name to Vimeow, with a blog post written by Pawsident Dae Mellencat, declaring that, “The company formerly known as Vimeo…” is brining users and cat lovers alike more room for all of their cat videos.
Vimeow has a whole new home page along with a majority of staff picks featuring feline friends. As a cat enthusiast myself, I must admit this particular prank is maybe my personal favorite.
5. The Winner
This is maybe the best prank I’ve come across. Wouldn’t it be grand if YouTube was actually a contest nobody knew existed? In this feel-good video campaign launched late last night, that is precisely what the fine people of YouTube are trying to explain. The video has some of the most viral stars of YouTube explaining the amazing story-telling that happens on everyone’s favorite video sharing site.
Well played YouTube, well played.
