It’s almost 2013, and what a year 2012 has been! We’ve had a lot of amazing experiences and moments this past year at Oniracom. Our staff breaks it down with their top 10 Oniracom moments of 2012. We hope you enjoy reading and reminiscing these wonderful moments with us.

top10

10. Holiday Party. We had a great time bonding and playing one of our favorite gift exchange games, White Elephant. The Mitt Romney Chia Pet gift was a classic.

9. Doheny Days. Oniracom staff and friends had a great weekend at the Doheny Days festival in September. As Haaris put it, we were “celebrating the fruits of our labor” at the festival. Fun times!

8. New Noise Music Conference and Festival. Oniracom ran a social media workshop this year at New Noise, and it went great!

7. StartUp Creativity. We had a get together in honor of StartupSB at our office. It was great seeing so many developers and other startups from the Santa Barbara community.

6. SXSW. We had a booth in the trade show at SXSW. We are stoked for another SXSW experience this coming March!

We celebrated the holiday season a bit early last week with a fun holiday party in the office. We had delicious cupcakes from one of our favorite bakeries in Santa Barbara, Crushcakes, along with other goodies.

To honor our trusty elephant mascot, we of course had to play a little game of white elephant! Lots of interesting gifts were passed around, including a Mitt Romney Chia Pet, a Friday the 13th bobble-head, and an awesome Step Brothers t-shirt that was rightfully won and picked by Drew. Tad’s wonderful drawing (picture below) was stolen twice, not a surprise! Everyone wanted their hand on that one.

We knew something big was going to happen when Facebook announced three months ago that they have purchased Instagram. A lot of users however, did not expect this drastic policy shift.

Beginning January 16, Facebook “claims the perpetual right to license all public Instagram photos to companies or any other organization, including for advertising purposes, which would effectively transform the Web site into the world’s largest stock photo agency” (CNET). This means that Facebook won’t have to pay you anything to use your images. If for say, you took a splendid image of a restaurant, and that restaurant decides that they’d like to use that image for advertising purposes, they pay Facebook and not you.

CNET also makes another great point, stating that this policy could “trigger state privacy laws” if the photos that Facebook sells contain images of young children without obtaining parental consent.

Oniracom has worked closely with G. Love & Special Sauce since 2001. On this most recent implementation of G. Love’s website, we decided to feature much of G. Love’s media, specifically his video blog and full discography. Users can stream any track from all 16 of his releases while they read along to his lyrics. Our Development Team created custom media players that pull content from the same CMS that runs the news and band weblogs.

If you’ve ever been to Santa Barbara, you know that there are a bunch of amazing local spots to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner at. From Japanese to French cuisine, we’ve got some special local restaurants that are dear to our hearts here in Santa Barbara. The staff has chosen their ultimate favorite places, which I’m sure was extremely hard, as there are just so many great eateries sprinkled throughout Santa Barbara county.

Jacob chose Bouchon. “The most fresh farm to table comfort food paired with hand picked wines. Worth every dollar.”

Matt picked a French favorite, Renaud’s. “Love the chicken sandwich on their freshly baked French roll.”

Mike went for the ramen at Itsuki. “Amazing Ramen and Udon, great sizzling plates, highly recommended in their new location, although sadly they moved 8 miles farther away from me! I still proudly support.”

Sean picked a great local favorite, Lily’s Tacos. “They have eyeball tacos (which are delicious by the way).”

If you thought your favorite catchy pop songs couldn’t possibly get any catchier, well, you’re wrong. Robin Skouteris came out with a mashup of 24 artists he titled “PopLove (2012).”

Yep, you guessed it. His mashup features the most catchy and popular songs of 2012 that just can’t make it out of your head. The mashup includes Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake”, Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” Ellie Goulding’s “Lights,” Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” and much more. I must say, this is my new guilty pleasure. Rather sure I have already contributed 25+ views to this insanely catchy mashup!
