While Summer has finally come to a close, the hot weather and the hot new albums it brought with it are here to stay. A parched California may be getting some much needed relief this coming winter. Scientists and climate experts are now certain that an El Niño rivaling that of the infamous 1997-98 El Niño should arrive in just over a month. For most of us here on the West Coast of the USA we think of El Niño as just a surge in the amount of rain that falls throughout the winter months since that is the only effect we tend to notice. However, an El Niño is actually defined by the changing of normal wind and ocean currents in the Pacific which results in a major warming of Pacific waters and significant weather patterns on a global scale.

Apple unveiled the next line of its products today at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, and (as expected) they appear to be stepping up their game. As usual, two new iPhones were announced, but it was the new iPad and revamped Apple TV that stole the show.

Earlier this summer, the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County launched its month long campaign, End Summer Hunger. Its goal was to raise $50,000 for the Picnic in the Park program, which is “a country-wide program that provides children under 18 with free, nutritious meals when school is not in session, regardless of their parents’ income.” Surpassing its goal, the Foodbank reached an outstanding $75,000 for the Picnic in the Park program, able to provide over 23,000 lunches to children throughout the month of August.
